Urushi Yaotome (八乙女 うるし, Yaotome Urushi) is a second-year high school student and senpai of Ayumu Tanaka in the shogi club. She is in love with Ayumu although she keeps denying the fact. Her favourite shogi piece is promoted pawn. She used to play shogi with her grandad so she is really good at it.

Urushi is a girl with long lavender hair. She usually wears a school sailor uniform and black pleated skirt. She has big brown eyes and often puts a large smile on her face. Urushi has no experience with love, so she can't deal with a straightforward person like Ayumu. Besides that, she is very short despite of her age and has been quite sad about the fact. But all those worries immediately left as Ayumu said that her height adds up to her cuteness. And the viewers agreed. She is also really small and skinny which gives her bestfriend, Maki an opportunity to tease her. In the manga, she wears a baggy cardigan during winter. Her Star Sign Is Pisces
Personality[]
Urushi believes that Ayumu likes her, but no matter what she does to trick him into confession, she fails. Ayumu often tells her she is cute or flatters her in other ways, causing her to blush often. Urushi does well in her class, which would adds up the fact that she's a shogi genius. She is pretty tsundere when Maki tries to ship her with Ayumu and would immediately deny the ship. she is also very caring for her kouhai and would agree to whatever plans they make. Furthermore, she is a happy go lucky type person and she likes to being relied on. Although the shogi club is not an official club, she still stays there as her passion for shogi is intense and finally gets her wish granted when she reaches third year of high school. She would sometimes get jealous whenever Ayumu is talking to a girl even when she doesn't doubt that he likes her.
